Gamma - The Greenest Minutes in the UK

gamma-greenest-minutesAs one of the UK's largest providers of voice services and applications, Gamma recognises the need to set an example to the industry. We take our responsibilities very seriously and are totally committed to being not just the most efficient low cost operator, but also the greenest. Thanks to the efficiency of our network and assets, and though our internal procedures and practices, Gamma Telecom is one of the greenest operators in the UK.

Here are just some of the initiatives Gamma has made to reduce carbon footprint:

  • Gamma's early adoption of IP based soft-switching in its core network marked the first initiative of its kind in the UK and has been offering its channel partners 'Green Minutes' since 2006.

  • Annual power consumption is down 150,000Kw in 2007 due to continued investment in soft switching (soft switching has enabled us to move from a power-hungry hardware infrastructure to software driven environment which uses far less power).

  • From 1st January 2008, Gamma's Electronic Invoicing policy has meant that we no longer produce paper invoices for our customers; instead invoices are available online only, through the Gamma Portal, making a saving over 5000 printed pages a month.

  • Gamma have adopted The Woodland Trust as our official charity, which aims to prevent the loss of ancient woodland and to increase new native woodland.

It's also through good practices internally that Gamma is proud to be doing as much as it can to help the environment. These include:

  • Substantial use of web conferencing. Our product launches, for example, typically attract over 100+ Channel Partners and by using web conferencing we are able to deliver our proposition in one hit, thus avoiding a significant amount of travel for both our staff and our customers.

  • Significant use of audio conferencing. Gamma staff use 1,750,000 minutes a year on audio conferencing alone, saving 80,000 miles of travel per year.

  • Use of recycled paper on all printed collateral and stationery.

Gamma Launches First 'Green Minutes' to UK Channel

As of January 1st 2009, all minutes carried across the Gamma Telecom network are carbon neutral. This is a first in the UK telecoms market, and is particularly beneficial to businesses and Channel Partners who are looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
