SIP TRUNKS MADE SIMPLE

SIP Trunks available @ £4.00 per month rental + Calls

Businesses that have recently installed or upgraded their phone system will be aware of it's VoIP capability and will want to make some or full use of the VoIP capability and not only communicate over IP within the enterprise, but also outside the enterprise. A SIP Trunk provided by an Internet Telephony Service Provider to connect to the traditional PSTN network is the solution. Unlike in traditional telephony, where bundles of physical wires were once delivered from the service provider to a business, a SIP trunk allows a company to replace these traditional fixed PSTN lines with PSTN connectivity via a SIP trunking service provider on the Internet.

SIP trunks can offer significant cost-savings for enterprises, eliminating the need for local PSTN gateways, costly ISDN BRIs (Basic Rate Interfaces) or PRIs (Primary Rate Interfaces).

Our SIP Trunk service provides a simple, cost effective solution for business customers that want a VoIP Telephone Service for use with ther SIP enabled VoIP Phone System, or for use with legacy PSTN and ISDN systems with the use of a SIP VoIP Gateway. SIP Trunks provide a competitive solution for extra telephone lines or for adding extra DDI Capability or back-up of traditional telephone line solutions.

SIP Trunking

SIP Trunks (or VoIP/ IP trunks) enable companies to utilise a single internet connection for making and receiving multiple concurrent VOIP telephone calls. SIP trunking provides your organisation with added flexibility, improves business continuity and offers substantial cost savings over traditional telephony services such as BT business analogue phone lines, BT business ISDN2e telephone lines, BT business ISDN30e phone lines.

By utilising business IP trunks within a converged voice and data network, you can dynamically allocate bandwidth to other needs such as email and web traffic as and when you need it.

FAQs about SIP Trunking

1. SIP doesn't equal SIP.

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is fast becoming the standard term bandied around in the Telecoms Industry for the replacement of traditional TDM services with IP based solutions.

SIP however is not a standard solution in the way that BT ISDN2e and BT ISDN30e has been deployed in the UK over the past few years.

SIP is defined in a number of Requests for Comment (RFCs) documents, and suppliers of SIP equipment and SIP Network services may have interpreted and deployed their solutions in a number of different ways.

SIP is not a standard, and connecting SIP devices to a SIP Network is not necessarily "Plug and Play".

When looking to connect an IP Phone System or SIP Gateway to a SIP service provider you should ensure that the device has been compatibility tested with the Service Providers network and that all service features are fully supported.

SynergyOne's SIP Trunk service - IP Direct Connect - provides a simple, cost effective IP telephony solution for business phone line customers that want a VoIP telephone service for use with the SIP enabled VoIP Phone System, or for use with legacy analogue phone line, ISDN2e phone line and ISDN30e phone line telephone systems with the use of a SIP VoIP Gateway. SynergyOne's business IP phone lines provide a competitive solution for extra business telephone lines or for adding extra DDI Capability and ISDN style services or back-up/disaster recover of traditional telephone line solutions.

SynergyOne have vast experience with connecting just about any telephone system to SIP Trunks please contact us for more information.

2. Focus on flexibility - numbers, speed, international SIP Trunking has a major advantage over BT business analogue phone lines, BT business ISDN2e phone lines and BT business ISDN30e telephone line connections, that is flexibility of numbering. In the traditional network provision the number that is provided by the Telephony operator is sourced from the local BT exchange.

In IP Telephony services the linkage between numbering and location can be broken.

This allows unique cost effective IP telephony solutions to be delivered to business customers that cannot be replicated within an ISDN network for example.

How powerful would it be to provide UK VOIP phone numbers overseas to reduce call costs for internal calls and customers calling the overseas office?

Think of the cost savings that can be made on a customer taking their IP telephone number or existing BT telephone number with them when they relocate their office.

Does the customer need to support numbers from different geographic locations from a single site?

What about a London 0207 IP phone number hosted in your office in Manchester?

SynergyOne can provide a choice of over 5,000,000 UK based VOIP and IP telephone numbers throughout the world. A company based in Manchester can be provided with a London IP phone number and vice versa; providing you with local presence. SIP trunking is routed over the internet, therefore we point your VOIP phone number to your IP address which can be anywhere in the world.

Leon Penny, Company Director of Synergy One discusses some important point that potential users of SIP Trunks should consider.

1. Access is key

In order to support SIP access to the customer's site you need to ensure that the IP connection on site can support the number of concurrent VOIP calls you require at a consistently good standard of voice quality.

To do that follow these steps:

Calculate the number of concurrent VOIP calls you need to support both incoming and outgoing at the site

Choose the IP call CODEC, the voice encryption that you wish to provide for the VOIP phone call service. You will need 80kbps for a typical voice call (G.711 codec) and approximately 30Kbps if you are using a voice compression codec on your IP telephone system (G.729).

Assess the bandwidth that you would require to support the number of VOIP calls

Use an IP connection dedicated for your VOIP voice calls.

If using a broadband connection, use a service with a low contention ratio and one that prioritises voice across the network. Please use the Broadband Checker which provides a detailed breakdown of DSL, cable and wireless services available at your location or contact us for more help and advice.

2. Set expectations with customers

SIP Trunking Services are an alternative to BT business ISDN2 phone lines and BT business ISDN30 phone lines.

SIP can provide a number of advantages over BT business analogue phone lines, BT business ISDN2 phone lines and BT business ISDN30 phone lines, but a key element is that the service must work and work reliable to be used in a Business environment.

Therefore the IP telephony solution provided to the customer must be engineered to be reliable with an effective resilience mechanism in the event of a failure.

3. Disaster recovery is a "killer application"

SIP Trunking solutions can offer a very flexible set up to provide Disaster Recovery / Business continuity solutions to customers.

By creating a SIP account for a customer's phone system the VOIP telephone numbers associated with that account are now hosted with the SIP providers network.

In the event of a Disaster, rendering the site inaccessible, the account can be utilized in another IP phone system on another site and connected via an IP connection the service can instantaneously be recreated.

Alternatively the VOIP phone system itself could be moved to another site any where there is an IP connection and service can automatically be restored.

There is no need to re-provision the network service and there are no additional network charges or remote call forwarding to pay!

4. Make sure you have the full product (service/router/hardware)

When looking at a SIP Trunk provider it is recommended to look for an experienced provider who can offer a "one-throat-to-choke" IP telephony solution.

The full supported service package that SynergyOne offers includes the following:

The IP Phone System or SIP Gateway that will be installed on the customer's site. SIP Gateways are used when connecting a phone system that is not IP enabled.

The router that will be utilised to connect to the IP Network Provider.

The IP Network, or Internet Service Provider that will be utilised to support the VOIP voice connections.

The SIP Trunking Service Provider including the VOIP phone numbers or a process of porting existing business phone numbers to the IP Trunk platform.

All elements of the overall solution must be compatible, and for the complete service you can provide effective support for the installation and ongoing fault management.

By using SynergyOne the customer is buying a complete solution, not a collection of parts.

5. Ensure the SIP Trunk Provider and your Phone System Maintainer can work together.

The relationship between the SIP provider and the SIP equipment manufacturer is vital to ensure a consistent quality of service.

As well as the IP telephone systems and SIP Gateways being tested with the SIP provider's network, you should examine the relationship that they have with these manufacturers.

Has the phone system you own been fully tested and any bugs ironed out - you do not want to be a pioneer.

Again, it is very important you chose your SIP Trunk vendor carefully and ensure that you are comfortable with the company, their experience and their knowledge of your telephone system.

It is also recommended, where practical, that all services are purchased from your chosen provider so that you are not caught in the middle with multiple suppliers blaming each other if there is a problem.

SynergyOne offer phone system maintenance on a wide range of business phone systems in the UK.

We also have vast experience in deploying and connecting SIP Trunks to just about any phone system so please contact us now for more information.

6. Key benefits of SIP Trunks

Cost savings can be made in implementing a SIP trunk connection, especially if deployed across multiple sites, where site to site calling cost reductions can apply.

But the main benefits of deploying SIP trunking are not price, but rather the following important features:

Number portability, allowing customers to relocate their office and keep their number.

Number flexibility, supporting Disaster Recovery plans for customers at a fraction of existing BT ISDN2e and BT ISDN30e costs.

Ease of phone system expansion, an additional number of SIP channels can be added to a site at the fraction of the cost and time that deploying BT ISDN2e or BT ISDN30e would entail.

Site Resilience, by adding a IP trunk connection at a customer's site and retaining BT ISDN2e or BT ISDN30e or BT business analogue phone line services, your site has an extremely resilient telephone services for very little capital expenditure.

SynergyOne's SIP trunk services are priced for in a similar way to BT ISDN2e and BT ISDN30e telephone lines. You choose how many simultaneous VOIP calls you require - that is the number of SIP trunk Rentals you pay and then you choose the amount of IP phone numbers you require to be delivered over these SIP trunk telephone lines.

For example - the equivalent to 2 x ISDN2e BT telephone lines with a block of 10 phone numbers would be 4 x SIP Trunk rentals @ £9.950 each per month and a set up charge of £100.00 for 10 DDI Numbers. Compared to the cost of the equivalent BT business ISDN2e service there is a huge saving in terms of set up and rental charges as well as the benefit of cheap VOIP calls and only having to wait a few hours for your numbers to become live, instead of a few weeks wait for the installation of a BT ISDN2e telephone Line.

7. Supplier scale is key - 999, BT, voice pedigree

A SIP trunking service is a Business Connectivity service and like any business phone line connection to the PSTN it must provide a highly available, and reliable service that will scale as SIP trunking moves from this initial market deployment stage to the mainstream connectivity mechanism within the UK.

In addition to service reliability and scalability, the SIP provider should also provide the basics of a telephony service:

Emergency Services Calling Support

Directory Enquiries support

When choosing a SIP Provider you should ensure that the provider can support all these requirements both today and in the future as the services scale and become more complex.
